Mate represents the South American caffeinated infusion traditionally drunk from a gourd with a metal straw (bombilla), a culturally significant addition for Argentine, Uruguayan, and Paraguayan users especially, where mate-drinking is a deeply social daily ritual; it arrived in Unicode 12 (2019).
