Olive filled a surprisingly long-standing gap — despite being a Mediterranean diet staple and olive oil's global culinary importance, it only arrived in 2021 (Unicode 13.1). It's used for actual olives, martinis, and Mediterranean or Italian food posts, and its small, simple oval design (usually green or with a hint of the stone) makes it one of the smallest fruit emoji by visual footprint.
