Mountain (plain, no snow) is used more generally for hiking, nature, or overcoming-a-challenge metaphors than its snow-capped counterpart, and being one of the older, simpler symbol-style emoji (rather than a fully illustrated one), it renders somewhat more minimally across platforms; part of the original 2010 Unicode set.
